Regionally-Owned Enterprises are one of the supporting economic activities of the community that should indeed be established in all regions in the Republic of Indonesia, including Central Papua Province. The existence of these business entities will maximize the economic potential that exists in a community group and can also train cooperation, responsibility, and independence for each of its members. The regional government of Central Papua Province realizes the importance of Regionally-Owned Enterprises so that it invites stakeholders and especially the community to discuss the establishment of these business entities in order to improve the community’s economy. The discussion was held on September 27, 2024 at the Radio Republik Indonesia Nabire Hall.
The discussion in planning the development of Regionally-Owned Enterprises in Central Papua Province was packaged in the form of a focus group discussion entitled Initial Coordination Meeting and Kick Off Meeting for the Study of the Establishment of Regionally-Owned Enterprises. The Acting Governor of Central Papua Province, Ribka Haluk, sent the Head of the Bureau of Economics and Development Administration, Yohanes You, to lead the discussion. Several participants who actively participated and attended the discussion included the secretary of the regional representative council, the secretary of the people’s consultative assembly, the head of the regional revenue, finance, and asset management bureau, and the heads of regional apparatus organizations representing various regions in Central Papua Province.
The people from various regions of Central Papua Province have economic opportunities in various sectors that are their main source of livelihood. Some of the sectors are farmers who work in agriculture and plantations, fishermen who manage fisheries on the beaches, and also nature tourism managers, as well as those who work in the energy and mineral resources sector. The natural wealth owned by Central Papua Province is one of the strong reasons for the regional government to immediately form a regional-owned business entity in order to increase community income and increase economic turnover in the region.
The discussion leader explained that in order to maximize the economic potential in Central Papua Province, a regional-owned business entity should be formed that prioritizes professionalism and transparency. Increasing income and profits is the main focus in the formation of a regional-owned business entity, but there needs to be an increase in public services in the management of regional-owned businesses in order to produce maximum benefits.
The expectation from the discussion on the establishment of regional-owned enterprises in Central Papua Province is that the business entity will be realized soon to be able to increase community income, create equitable and efficient public services, and maximize the economic potential in the community. Community welfare is the ultimate goal of the establishment of regional-owned enterprises and it is also hoped that it can increase community economic development.
