Who we are
About West Papua Voice
Independent reporting from the heart of the Pacific — dedicated to the people, land, and future of West Papua.
“West Papua Voice exists to bring the stories of one of the world’s most underreported regions to a global audience — with accuracy, depth, and respect for the communities we serve.”
Our Story
West Papua Voice was founded to fill a critical gap in regional journalism. While West Papua sits at the centre of some of the most significant political, environmental, and human rights conversations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, its stories have long struggled to reach international audiences.
We are a multilingual news platform — publishing in English and Swahili — reaching audiences across Indonesia, Africa, and the wider world. Our reporting spans politics and security, economic development, social culture, sport, and the environment.
Operating under an academic domain (.ac), we are committed to the principles of rigorous, evidence-based journalism. Every story we publish is grounded in verified sources, on-the-ground reporting, and a commitment to giving voice to those who are most often unheard.
Independence
We are editorially independent. Our reporting is guided by facts, not political or commercial interests.
Accuracy
Every claim is verified. We correct errors promptly and transparently when they occur.
Community
We prioritise the voices and experiences of indigenous Papuans in all our storytelling.
Access
Our content is free to read. We believe informed communities make better decisions.

What We Cover
Our editorial scope spans the full breadth of life in West Papua and the broader Papua region. We report on political developments and security situations with rigour and care. We cover economic developments, from infrastructure and investment to agriculture and coastal livelihoods. Our social and culture desk documents the rich traditions, challenges, and everyday lives of Papuan communities. We also follow sport — with particular attention to Persipura Jayapura and Papua’s athletic identity — and broader development stories.
Through our Swahili-language section, we connect Papua’s stories to East African audiences who share many of the same conversations about indigenous rights, environmental stewardship, and post-colonial development.
Editorial Standards
West Papua Voice adheres to the following principles: we do not publish unverified information; we seek comment from all parties named in a story before publication; we clearly label opinion and analysis; we protect the identity of sources who face risk; and we do not accept payment for editorial coverage.
If you believe we have made an error, please contact us. We are committed to publishing corrections promptly.
