MANOKWARI, WEST PAPUA – In an effort to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the Land of Papua, Bank Indonesia West Papua Province, together with the Indonesian Economists Association of West Papua and the University of Papua, successfully organized the National Seminar of Regional Economic Week, Thursday (12/9/24) The highlight of this Regional Economic Week raised the theme “Strengthening Inclusive and Sustainable Economy in Building Golden Papua 2024”.
The seminar was attended by various stakeholders, ranging from:
- Academics,
- Business Actors,
- Local Government,
- Community representatives.
The participants enthusiastically followed the discussions and presentations from expert speakers who discussed various economic potentials and challenges in West Papua.
The head of the West Papua representative office of Bank Indonesia Setian, in his speech said that the Regional Economic Week 2024 is a strategic step to stimulate innovation and creativity in developing the regional economy, “Through this seminar, we want to encourage the birth of fresh ideas that can be a solution to economic problems in West Papua,” he said.
One of the main highlights of the seminar was the result of the scientific paper competition which was attended by hundreds of students from various universities, five best works were selected as finalists and presented to the participants.
These works present innovative ideas to increase productivity, develop leading sectors, and strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in West Papua.
Assistant II Regional Secretary of West Papua Province, Melkias Warinussa, appreciated the organization of the 2024 Regional Economic Week and according to him this activity is very relevant to the efforts of the regional government in realizing the vision of Papua Emas 2045, “The ideas that arise from this seminar will be taken into consideration in the preparation of future regional development policies,” he said.
The speakers who attended were:
- Irene Manibuy Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy for West Papua,
- Laus D.C. Rumayom APS Center for Development and Global Studies,
- Dhenny Yuartha Junifta, Researcher Institute For Development Of Economics And Finance.
The three speakers provided an in-depth look at West Papua’s economic potential, the challenges faced and strategies to achieve sustainable growth and with the end of this seminar, it is hoped that the spirit of collaboration and innovation will continue.
Regional Economic Week 2024 has become clear evidence that West Papua has great potential to grow and develop into a more advanced and prosperous region.
