FAKFAK, WEST PAPUA – Young seeds in the sport of boxing or boxing in Fakfak Regency, West Papua have long needed competition as a place to channel their talents, “Our younger siblings practice daily in routine coaching, but since 2007 there has been no more boxing competition in Fakfak. This is a longing for us,” said Assistant Boxing Coach, Jhon Sima.
Jhon Sima entered and dabbled in the Fakfak Regency Regional Student Sports Education and Training Center because of his love for young sports talent in Fakfak, especially boxing athletes, “I participated from 2017 to 2019 and indeed in 2019 it has started to limp. There is coaching, but there are no events, so we continue to encourage this,” said Jhon Sima.
Jhon Sima admitted that he wanted to tap the hearts of all parties, without intending to blame anyone, “It is useless for us to hold continuous coaching but there is absolutely no competition in the regions,” he said.
According to Jhon Sima, the importance of competition as a forum for tests and to measure the abilities of young boxing athletes, “It is true that our goal of coaching is not only for events, but also to foster mental and character so that they are more mature,” said Jhon Sima.
Jhon Sima appreciated the Fakfak Education, Youth and Sports Office for paying attention to the development of boxing in the area nicknamed the nutmeg city, “because in the future, our athletes can have a forum for competition so that they can channel their talents and have achievements,” said Jhon Sima.
Jhon Sima invites all parties to jointly depart from the way of thinking that every sport is important, “There should be no discrimination in giving attention because all the ends bring the good name of the region,” he said.
Even so, Jhon Sima conveyed that tunju athletes remain enthusiastic in the midst of limited support, “I give the message the spirit of practicing and the spirit of making achievements. So far, we are trying to get them to go to competitions outside,” said Jhon Sima.
In addition, his party also needs an adequate training ground because the potential for young seeds of Fakfak boxers, West Papua is very large and there are hundreds of people, divided into senior and junior groups, who actively participate in coaching totaling hundreds of people, “By giving full attention to sports and coaching, of course it can provide young people with a place to channel their talents, so that they are not unemployed and fall into promiscuity and commit crimes,” said Jhon Sima.
