Political education is providing an understanding to the public about how the political system works and also how politics should be something positive, especially during the campaign period leading up to the simultaneous regional head elections that will be held in all regions in the Republic of Indonesia, including one of the newest provinces, Central Papua Province. Political issues need to be packaged in a form that is easy for the public to understand so that misunderstandings do not arise. The campaign period is one of the most important periods during the general election and is also the most appropriate time to provide political education for the public so that they can participate in the democratic party with adequate political understanding.
Talking about political education for the public is certainly more about how the public understands the basics of politics. For example, during the campaign period, of course the political education that the public needs to get is what are the campaign rules provided by the General Election Commission. So that the public understands when the candidate pair campaigns whether it is in accordance with the applicable rules or even violates the rules. The supervisory function can also be carried out by the public to report when there is a violation of the rules during the campaign period. Although the supervisory function has been carried out by the General Election Supervisory Bureau, there is nothing wrong with the public actively playing a role by being given adequate political education. For the candidate pairs, political education that should be given to the community is how to get votes by providing a clear, targeted vision and mission, and introducing superior programs that can attract the interest and sympathy of the community. So, the community is given an understanding when the candidate pair is elected, what will be given to the community through programs run by the local government. The community can understand the positive values of the candidate pair who are campaigning from a more objective perspective. In addition, the community also understands the needs that can be met by the candidate pair and a positive dialogue is created during the campaign period.
The hope of political education that can be felt by the community in Central Papua Province is that in the future the elected regional leaders are the best candidate pairs and in accordance with the needs of the community. The local government and stakeholders should also provide facilities for the community to access political education such as holding meetings for deliberation and also while presenting political education, or by including political education through social media that can be easily accessed by the community. So that during the campaign period, it will minimize violations of general election rules. The public will also become smarter and will be able to give their right to vote on election day to candidate pairs who are considered to meet the desired criteria.
