NABIRE – In order to keep Nabire City center clean, the Central Papua Provincial Government and Nabire Regency Government are ready to collaborate to overcome the spike in garbage during the key moment of 2024.
Head of the Central Papua Province Department of Environment, Forestry and Land (DLHKP), Yan Richard Pugu, said that he would add a fleet of garbage transporters at the New Year’s celebration, because in Nabire there are 9 landfills provided.
Then increase the operational time to the officers, who previously had work in the morning. During the key year celebration, they will be distributed schedules from morning, afternoon, and evening, so that they remain active.
“This is done because the volume of waste is predicted to increase from the usual 75 tons to 120 to 150 tons, or an increase of 75 to 100 percent in all TPS,” Yan explained, Saturday, (27/12/2024).
The provincial government and Nabire Regency will reactivate the waste disposal time for the community, so that it can be done from night to dawn.
“So that in the morning, the officers can easily pick up the garbage. But in principle, we will together with the local government, continue to make every effort, so that the handling of waste at the New Year’s celebration can be handled properly,” he said.
While the Head of DLH Nabire Regency, Arfan Natan Palumpun added, until now they have continued to consistently handle waste in the capital of Central Papua.
For example, before Christmas or on December 23, officers have cleaned up garbage in all landfills in Nabire city. Then on December 26, 2024, continued with cleaning up garbage on the green line. On December 27, 2024, cleaning was carried out at the Heroes Cemetery TPS, Kalibobo and Oyehe, as well as several other points.
“Indeed, the amount of waste during Christmas is quite a lot, for example, for the cleaning process carried out at the Heroes Cemetery TPS alone, reaching 6 trucks,” he said. To face the release of 2024, the Nabire Regency Government will conduct a standby in the form of massive cleaning on December 30 to 31.
“This is done, so that on January 1, 2025, the holiday. For this reason, we hope that the community will not throw garbage anywhere, so that during the New Year, Nabire City will remain clean and free of garbage,” he said. He appreciates the support of the provincial government in the form of fleets and other facilities that support their activities.
