PAPUA – The Jayapura Regency Government, Papua, is strengthening support for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by building two special galleries located in Repang Muaif Village, Nimbokrang District, and near Sentani Airport.
Head of the Jayapura Regency Cooperatives and MSMEs Office, Hariyanto, explained that the galleries are designed as promotion and sales centers for Papuan handicrafts and culinary products.
The construction of the gallery is funded through the 2024 Papua Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus), which aims to encourage economic growth in the local community.
“We built this gallery so that residents have a proper place to sell, so that they can increase their handicraft and culinary production. Hopefully, this facility will be able to boost the economic capacity of Indigenous Papuans (OAP),” Hariyanto said in a press statement, Thursday (26/12).
The Jayapura Regency Cooperative and MSME Office manages funds of around IDR 4 billion from Papua Special Autonomy 2024.
The budget is focused on improving the economy and empowering indigenous Papuans through various strategic programs, including physical infrastructure development and skills training. Hariyanto emphasized his commitment to continue improving the capacity of OAPs through this concrete step.
He is optimistic that the presence of these galleries will not only be a means of promoting local products, but will also have a significant impact on the regional economy.
With the presence of these MSME galleries, Jayapura Regency shows a real effort in empowering local potential while preserving the richness of Papuan culture through unique products produced by its people.
