The Jayapura Regency Government inaugurated the construction of the Aerospace Park which is also a monument to the Indonesian National Army, especially for the Air Force in Papua. The construction of the park and monument carried out by the soldiers is a form of patriotism and at the same time to commemorate the services of the soldiers, especially the air force, who have been on duty to protect the entire Papua region from existing threats. In addition, the preservation of heroic values and inviting the community, especially the new generation in Papua, to love their homeland as exemplified by the soldiers who are willing to give their whole soul and body to defend their beloved homeland. The inauguration of the construction of the park and monument was also attended by the community and traditional leaders who live around the construction project area.
The Aerospace or Dirgantara Park is a term given by the Commander of the Indonesian National Army Air Base in Papua, namely Indan Gilang Buldansyah. He explained that the term dirgantara park refers to how the Indonesian National Army Air Force monument that was built can be used as a park that has various functions and benefits for the community. As an aerospace park, the monument that will be completed can be used as a green open space that can be used as a recreation area for the people in Papua. In addition to its recreational function, the aerospace park also has another function, namely education, especially to learn the historical values of the heroism of the soldiers who served in the Papua region and its surroundings.
The location where the Indonesian National Air Force Monument and the Aerospace Park were built is located on Protocol Street, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, or more specifically at the Silas Papare Air Base. The location, which is in the middle of a public space and close to the Jayapura Regency regional government office, will make it easier for anyone who wants to take the time to visit, either for entertainment or to learn the history of the monument. A positive impact is also expected to emerge after the park and monument are officially opened to the public after the construction process is complete.
One of the most striking things in the description of the development plan proposed by the Commander of the Indonesian National Air Force Base in Papua, Indan Gilang Buldansyah, is the placement of a helicopter in a part of the monument so that it can be seen from a fairly long distance. The helicopter that will be displayed is a representation of the defense equipment used by the Indonesian National Air Force that has been around to help secure the entire Papua region since 1980 to 2014. The type of helicopter is the SA-330 Puma Helicopter which has quite a high historical value for the military and the people of Papua. The hope of building a monument and an aerospace park is that the public can appreciate the services of the military, especially the air force, which has long provided assistance to the people of Papua, especially in security matters. In addition, it is hoped that the new generation will also learn to know the history of the past so that through the monument and aerospace park, history will not be lost because it is recorded and will always be remembered.
