Jayapura, Jubi – The League 1 competition match between host PSBS Biak Numfor and Persib Bandung on January 11, 2024 will carve a new history for Lukas Enembe Main Stadium in Kampung Harapan, Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province. For the first time, the stadium which was once the arena for the National Sports Week or PON XX Papua will hold a League 1 match.
PSBS Biak Numfor management has chosen the Lukas Enembe Main Stadium as their headquarters during the second round of the League 1 2024/2025. Previous, the club that is the pride of the Biak Numfor community is based at the Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, Bali.
Lukas Enembe Main Stadium is the largest stadium in Eastern Indonesia. The construction was carried out starting in 2016, and declared completed 100 percent in 2019.
The stadium was inaugurated on October 23, 2020. The inauguration moment was presented with a friendly match that brought together the PON Papua Football Team under coach Eduard Ivakdalam with the PON East Java Football Team coached by Ruddy William Keltjes.
The two teams met twice at Lukas Enembe Stadium. The first meeting held on October 20, 2020 was won by the PON Papua Football Team with a score of 1 – 0. The second meeting took place on the inauguration day, October 23, 2020. The PON Papua Football Team won the match with a landslide score of 4 – 0.
A number of the two friendly matches went down in history as the first soccer match to be held at the stadium with a capacity of 40 thousand spectators.
At the implementation of PON XX Papua 2021, Lukas Enembe Stadium is only used to hold opening and closing ceremonies.
PSBS tactician, Emral Abus said his team was very enthusiastic about making their debut at Lukas Enembe Stadium. They have adapted to the weather and finalized preparations.
He hopes that the beginning of their work at the historic stadium can get positive results when entertaining Persib Bandung. “Our team has adapted to the weather here after so long our team competed outside. All the players who come here are very enthusiastic. Hopefully the match against Persib we can get the best results,” he concluded.
