PAPUA – Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Commissioner General of Police Drs. H. Tomsi Tohir Balaw, M.Si., chaired a coordination meeting (rakor) on concrete steps to control inflation in 2024, Monday (30/12/2024). In the meeting, various strategies were formulated to ensure price stability and maintain people’s purchasing power.
During the meeting, Tomsi Tohir emphasized the need for cooperation between local governments and related stakeholders in paying attention to beef supply to prevent the transmission of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in cattle to maintain food security. Tomsi Tohir noted that in 2022, we experienced a similar problem that affected meat supply and farmers’ income.
Tomsi Tohir also emphasized the need to anticipate the increase in the price of cooking oil “our oil” and commodities that tend to exceed the highest retail price (het) and mitigate the risk of potential losses to farmers due to extreme weather changes in the harvest plan in early 2025. “Local governments should evaluate 2024 regarding supply, needs, balance, distribution as material for improvement for 2025, routinely monitor BMKG data on rainfall in December to January to anticipate harvest time, optimize swamp land, print rice fields and monitor the condition of food supply and prices after Nataru,” he concluded.
In line with Tomsi Tohir, Papua Regional Secretary Yohanes Walilo who was present at the inflation control coordination meeting said that handling inflation in the region needs to be carried out by collaborating between SKPDs and government partners who are members of the Papua Province Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) by conducting market operations, cheap market movements and concrete efforts to control inflation in the region. “In principle, the Papua Provincial Government is ready to implement the things conveyed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs” he concluded.
Ending the coordination meeting, Yohanes Walilo also wished all participants of the inflation coordination meeting a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year by reminding them to maintain communication and maintain cohesiveness for the progress of the Land of Papua.
