Jayapura – Herlin Beatrix Maryke Monim is the first Papuan woman to be inaugurated as an element of the leadership of the Papua House of Representatives for the 2024-2029 period.
She was inaugurated and confirmed as Deputy Speaker I of the Papua House of Representatives along with Denny Henrry Bonay as Speaker of the DPRP, Mukry M Hamadi as Deputy Speaker II of the DPRP and Supriadi Laling as Deputy Speaker III of the DPRP in a plenary meeting, Tuesday night (7/1/25).
Herlin is a native Sentani woman, who has occupied a seat in the Papuan legislature for three periods. This is also a history, for NasDem Party politicians in Papua.
“I give thanks to God because the responsibility that God gives is not a coincidence, but this is really God’s help so that at this time I can be re-elected in this Papuan DPR institution. And I can represent the first Papuan woman in Papua in this institution,” she told reporters, after in her office.
In addition to preparing cadres to enter politics, he said, this is a history for women to take part in development in Papua province.
“Therefore, I would like to thank the NasDem Party for preparing us as women to be involved in the political arena,” she said.
However, Herlin also said that she would fight for the rights of women’s interests during her leadership.
“Later we will discuss to fight for the rights and interests of women,” she added.
Because according to her, women’s interests are not only talked about outside of parliament but must sit in parliament to determine the direction of government policy.
“Because in shaping people and influencing policies, they must be in this institution. So I ask you to pray for me so that I can be a blessing for women in Papua,” she concluded.
It is known, Herlin Beatrix Monim occupied the seat of the Papua DPR for the 2014-2019, 2019-2024 and now 2024-2029 periods with the position, Chair of Commission II of the Papua DPR, Chair of Commission IV of the Papua DPR, Chair of the NasDem faction of the Papua DPR and Deputy Chair I of the Papua DPR.
