JAYAPURA – Christians in Papua welcomed the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration after being inaugurated as President and Vice President for the next five years. Congratulations were delivered by Pastor Iker Tabuni, a religious leader from the Evangelical Church in Indonesia (GIDI) on Sunday, October 20, 2024. “Of course we congratulate him, my prayer is that God will accompany his leadership and the ranks of the next five years,” he concluded.

“Papua must be better, more advanced, and more humane, we are all sure that the elected President and Vice President pair understands this very well,” continued Pastor Tabuni. The figure who also studied for a long time on the island of Java also assessed that Prabowo would continue development efforts during President Joko Widodo’s term. “We can all see, thousands of kilometers of asphalt roads, national-like fuel prices, as well as social attention to the church that is good and we believe it will continue for the next five years,” he explained.

In the results of the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres), Prabowo Subianto won a landslide victory in the Land of Papua. Pastor Tabuni said Prabowo’s absolute victory in the Land of Papua was because the people and the congregation saw a common vision for Papuans, for Papuan children.

“Now our task as the church of God is to bring peace with others regardless of ethnicity and differences in order to oversee the growth of all fields driven by the government,” concluded Pastor Tabuni.
