Jayapura – The Representative Office (KPw) of Bank Indonesia (BI) Papua, involves approximately 40 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Cendrawasih Festival which will take place on May 17-19 in Jayapura City. For this reason, innovation in the economic structure needs to be pursued through various efforts, for example by encouraging more diverse sources of economic growth, so that the foundation of the economy will be stronger and longer lasting.

In addition, by encouraging diverse economic and financial systems, not only conventional economic and financial systems but also Islamic economics and finance. Increase the adoption of digitalization and environmentally sound development. This can be achieved with synergy and collaboration between various parties and high optimism so that strong, balanced, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth can be achieved.

Similar efforts, such as holding a festival to introduce a new economy with the concept of environmental digitalization and tourism, were made in 2023. This festival was called the Festival Negeri 1000 Ombak Sail Teluk Cendrawasih, which was successfully held in Sarmi Regency Marves – Sarmi, Festival Negeri 1000 Ombak Sail Teluk Cendrawasih was successfully held at Telaga Cemara Tourism Beach, Holmafen Village, East Sarmi District on September 19-23, 2023. In addition to being a series of Sail Teluk Cendrawasih, this activity is also coupled with the 59th National Maritime Day which falls on September 23, 2023. The festival is enlivened with various arts and cultural performances, exhibitions of local handicrafts, various competitions, and breaking the Muri record for eating 20,000 coconuts. Sail Teluk Cenderawasih, which will be held in November 2023, is expected to start from each region on the coast of Cenderawasih Bay, from Sorong in Southwest Papua to Nabire in Central Papua. Head of UPT Noken of the Tourism and Culture Office of Papua Province, Erik Ohee, said that the implementation of Sail Teluk Cenderawasih will visit every region in Cenderawasih Bay, which includes 600 islands that hold a million cultures, potentials, and local wisdom that must be highlighted and raised to the surface. It is said that in preparation for the Cenderawasih Bay Sail, Biak Numfor Regency has held the Biak 2023 Festival which features various handicrafts made by several MSME players in the area. Including a cultural carnival featuring Apen Bayeren (walking on hot stones or coals), Barapen, and the appearance of traditions and cultures that are still well preserved.

Sail Teluk Cendrawasih 2023 will be held in four regencies, namely Biak Numfor Regency, Yapen Regency, Waropen Regency, and Sarmi Regency. Biak Numfor Regent Herry Ario Naap explained that STC 2023 can be a way to introduce the cultural heritage and customs of Papua. “The Biak Numfor Regency Government held a Biak Cultural Festival filled with UMKM exhibitions and various traditional activities, such as a series of Biak wedding customs, saucier or title giving for Biak customary children, papeda eating competitions, attractions to call cuscuses from the forest, and moni-moni snake summoning attractions,” Henry said in a press statement received, Thursday (23/3/2023).

At the same location, Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry Marves Odo R.M. Manuhutu said that the STC 2023 activity was an effort to promote the pride of traveling in Indonesia with a travel target of 1.2 to 1.4 billion or equivalent to an economic value of Rp 3,200 trillion. “If the Cenderawasih Bay Sail event is carried out every year, then the Biak Cultural Festival event is carried out every year well, of course, it will produce an extraordinary economic impact,” Odo concluded.

Sail Teluk Cenderawasih 2023 was launched on February 2 to 4, 2023 in Jakarta. Biak Numfor Regency is the first location for Sail Teluk Cenderawasih 2023. In the district, the Biak Cultural Festival will be held from Friday, March 17 to Sunday, March 19, 2023. Then, move to the location of the capital of the Yapen Islands Regency, Serui. In Serui, the Barramundi Workshop will be held from Thursday, March 30 to Friday, March 31. Then on Tuesday, April 18 to Thursday, April 20, the Sail Teluk Cenderawasih agenda was held again in Biak. The public can follow the Total Solar Eclipse Festival (GMT) which will be interspersed with the Biak Space Center Seminar. Furthermore, on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, 2023, Waropen Regency will hold a seminar or workshop on the development of crab commodities, shrimp, and a festival to eat 10,000 crabs. The next agenda in May, to be precise Monday, May 1 to Friday, May 5, 2023, will be the Festival Negeri Sejuta Bakau.
