Healthy Papua is one of three programs to accelerate Papua’s development besides Smart Papua and Prosperous Papua. Thus, one of the important aspects that is a priority in the program to accelerate development in Papua is how development in the health sector can have a positive impact on the community. The Papua Provincial Government pays more attention to how health programs can run smoothly, supported by the development of adequate health facilities. The geographical conditions throughout Papua increasingly create urgency for policy makers to pay attention to the health aspect so that the people in Papua feel safe and comfortable. The development of health facilities, both physical and service, must be implemented immediately so that it can be felt by all people living in Papua.
The need for the people in Papua for the presence of specialist doctors, especially in hospitals in remote areas of Papua, is important. When specialist doctors are present in the middle of the community, it is hoped that the public health figures can also increase. The public’s concerns that specialist doctors are only in large hospitals in big cities will be eroded over time. The local government guarantees the presence of specialist doctors throughout Papua by providing work contracts that can provide welfare guarantees for specialist doctors wherever they are placed to work. So that specialist doctors will not think about anything other than how to try to keep the surrounding community healthy and be able to overcome existing health problems.
Various challenges do need to be faced by specialist doctors. One of them is health facilities that still need to be improved. In order to provide the best facilities to specialist doctors who work in remote corners of Papua, the local government guarantees to build health facilities that have the latest technology and complete medical equipment and medicines that can be used by specialist doctors while on duty. In addition, access is also made easier if specialist doctors feel the need to refer patients to large hospitals in big cities by building roads that are easily accessible by ambulances or providing helicopters to make it easier and faster to deliver patients and supplies of medicines.
In addition to the assignment of specialist doctors and the provision of health facilities and access, one thing that needs to be considered is health services. The local government works with the central government and various policy makers to ensure that the community gets easy access to health services. People who feel sick will easily get treatment at health facilities and get treatment from specialist doctors, effective medicines, and of course services that speed up the patient’s healing process. It is hoped that the health aspects that continue to improve in Papua will have a positive impact on public health figures in Papua and can accelerate one of the three priorities for accelerating development in Papua, namely Healthy Papua.
