SERUI, PAPUA – The Yapen Islands Regency Basketball Association appreciates Paulus Waterpauw for making a basketball tournament in Serui. The Yapen Islands Basketball Association hopes that similar events can be carried out as annual events in Papua Province.
Chairman of the Yapen Islands Basketball Association, Harold Weno, represented by a member of the Yapen Islands Basketball Association, Azer Aninam, admitted that the basketball event by Paulus Waterpauw was the first event conducted by the 2024-209 Papua Governor Candidate. “Thank you Mr. Paulus Waterpauw for your attention to sports in Papua, especially basketball. This activity is very extraordinary and needs to be appreciated and supported together so that it becomes an annual agenda in Papua Province,” said Azer, Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Azer said basketball in the Yapen Islands was enthusiastically welcomed by young people and this sport is quite popular with young Papuans and is expected to motivate the achievements of young Papuans to continue working in the field of basketball. “If Mr. Paulus Waterpauw becomes Governor of Papua in the next five years, we hope that basketball will also be a priority to be considered, especially the talents of young Papuans are no less great in basketball,” he said.
The day before, the basketball tournament by Paulus Waterpauw was held in Serui, Yapen Islands Regency, in a match that will last a kick, there are 12 teams or 144 basketball athletes from Jayapura City, Waropen Regency, Biak Numfor and Yapen Islands who came directly at their own expense to participate in the tournament.
Komjen Pol (Ret) Drs Paulus Waterpauw, who is a retired Three-Star General of the National Police, will certainly participate in the Papua Governor Election 2024-2029.
By carrying the tagline Papua’s New Hope, Paulus hopes that the commitment to make Papua Province a big house and the easternmost of Indonesia can be presented in the community, by the way his Government is present in serving the community and including in carrying out full human development, caring for diversity like living safely, peacefully and prosperously. “The moment of this basketball event is a form of implementation of caring for diversity from regional differences, club differences, and differences from different backgrounds into the same national unity on this field,” said Paulus Waterpauw’s Volunteer Chairman, Agus Runtuboy.
