CENTRAL PAPUA – Get to know the Mimika Athletics Stadium as one of the international standard venues. Mimika Athletics Stadium is located in the Mimika Sport Complex area, SP-2 area, Wanagon Village, Mimika District, Timika City.
The Mimika Athletics Stadium is considered to have the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) Class 2 standard and can hold 42 numbers of matches in athletics. The Mimika Athletics Stadium was built on an area of 1,455 square meters. The stadium has been equipped with a grass field for pole vault, long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, and shot put.
While the running track is made of synthetic material specifically for various running numbers. In addition, this brand-new stadium is also equipped with a training field and other supporting facilities.
There are also two stands, namely the West Tribune and the East Tribune which can accommodate 3,500 spectators. The roof of the East Tribune resembles the tail of a bird of paradise (Paradisaeidae), a worldwide endemic of Papua and also known as the bird of paradise.
The Athletics Stadium has been used as a venue for athletics competitions for PON XX Papua 2021.
The Mimika Athletics Stadium has been inaugurated by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, who is also the Chairman of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PASI). The inauguration of the Mimika Athletics Stadium was also attended by Governor Lukas Enembe and Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng.
