Sentani – The Jayapura Regency Sports and Youth Office, Papua, socialized Law Number 40 of 2009 on Youth. The activity was held at one of the hotels in Sentani, Jayapura Regency..
Secretary of Dispora Jayapura Regency, Anthonius Sesa said, the Youth Law is important to be socialized, so that youth can understand its role and function.
In addition, he continued, through this meeting as a forum for them, to exchange ideas with youth organizations (OKP) to work together, especially for mutual welfare.
Sesa said that there are a number of substances from the law, among others, providing legal certainty on what the youth should do.
The law also regulates how to empower and develop youth, in development efforts in Jayapura Regency.
“This law regulates many (things)-how the portion of youth in the life of the nation, state. [So participants can understand] what the function and role of youth is,” he said.
“So, the youth understands the law that I [youth] am given space by the state/government as regulated in the law to be able to express what is my responsibility in contributing to the youth in this area,” he continued.
Sesa admitted that Dispora has limitations, especially when it comes to funding. However, it strives to provide assistance and training, to increase the capacity of youth.
The head of the Catholic Youth Commissariat of Jayapura Regency Branch, Roberth Yewen, gave input to Dispora to accommodate OKP. In addition, he asked Dispora to make training for OKP to make financial accountability reports, if they get grants.
“Many OKPs get financial assistance, but cannot make financial reports, (this) causes the Supreme Audit Agency to audit them. So that it will have an impact on the next funding, as well as eliminating the government’s trust in OKP,” he said.
