Papua – Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Ribka Haluk officially inaugurated 42 members of the Selection Committee (Pansel) for members of the Papuan People’s Representative Council (DPRP) appointment mechanism for 6 provinces in Papua.
The six provinces are Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, Mountainous Papua, West Papua, and Southwest Papua. With this inauguration, the membership of the Pansel in each province consists of 7 people.
In her speech, Rebekah re-emphasized the commitment to the fulfillment of the rights of Indigenous Papuans (OAP) in the fields of politics and government, as guaranteed by the Law (UU). She also advised the elected members of the Provincial Committee to be able to increase access for OAP to both matters.
He explained that the filling of DPRP members who are appointed through the appointment mechanism has been regulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 106 of 2021 concerning the Authority and Institutional Implementation of the Special Autonomy Policy (Otsus) of Papua Province. This is also part of the effort to protect and improve the dignity of OAP.
“Therefore, the members of the Provincial Selection Committee are expected to understand the entire mechanism in accordance with the applicable regulations and laws and regulations,” he said at the Oath / Pledge Taking Ceremony of the Provincial Selection Committee Members in the Context of Filling the DPRP Membership Mechanism for the 2024-2029 Term of Office at the Sasana Bhakti Praja (SBP) Building, Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Headquarters, Jakarta, Tuesday (29/10/2024).
Ribka also asked all parties to give attention and support to the selection process of DPRP members who will be appointed through the appointment mechanism. The Provincial Pansel is asked to pay attention to several important things in carrying out the mandated tasks. One of them is to ensure the composition of at least 30 percent of women’s representation in DPRP seats in each province.
Then, to support the implementation of the duties of each Provincial Pansel, Ribka asked for the commitment of the Acting (Pj.) Governor in the Papua region to immediately form the secretariat of the Pansel. This is important to support the implementation and financing of the activities of the Provincial Pansel.
Ribka emphasized that the public’s expectations of the performance of Pansel members are very high. Therefore, the public spotlight on the selection process will be greater. Although not easy, she said, this challenge needs to be used as motivation to work well to fulfill the mandate of the Papua Special Autonomy Law.
“I believe that those of you who have been entrusted by the Minister of Home Affairs as members of the [Provincial] Pansel will work professionally and free from conflicts of interest in society,” he said.
Finally, Ribka congratulated and hoped that the elected members of the Provincial Committee would be fully committed to efforts to develop the Land of Papua. “Our hopes and prayers are that peace will surround the Land of Papua and its people,” she concluded.
