The Simultaneous Regional Head Elections in Indonesia which will be held at the end of 2024 involve not only the regional head candidates who will compete in the political contestation but also the community as supporters of each regional head candidate. Public opinion that is widely circulated, especially through social media, is starting to spread. The campaigns carried out by each regional head candidate and their supporters are also massively echoed through various media, both directly and social media. The Muhammadiyah Student Association of South West Papua invites the community to anticipate conflicts as a result of the many opinions circulating. The campaign process is also one of the things that students pay attention to as part of the democratic party. A peaceful general election is the goal of all parties and therefore the community also needs to look after each other so that everything runs peacefully and smoothly.
The Muhammadiyah Student Association of South West Papua initiated a collaboration between the election organizers, security forces, and of course the entire community to jointly create a peaceful general election. Campaigning and promoting the supported regional head candidates is a legitimate activity, but the community is invited not to campaign while belittling other regional head candidates. The vision and mission of each regional head candidate should be a concern for the community rather than arguing with each other due to differences in choice.
High political participation is the hope of the South West Papua Muhammadiyah Student Association. Public concern to participate in the simultaneous regional head elections held at the end of the year is also expected to occur. The community needs to use their voting rights to choose one of the regional head candidates they like. Such political participation is also expected to remain on a peaceful path without any problems due to differences of opinion and differences in the regional head candidates chosen.
The South West Papua Muhammadiyah Student Association also invites the community to jointly monitor the general election process from when the regional head candidates campaign until the vote counting process. If it is considered that there is a regional head candidate who violates the regulations, the community has an obligation to report to the security forces and election organizers accompanied by valid evidence so that the report can be followed up.
The hope of the South West Papua Muhammadiyah Student Association is that the regional head elections that are held will run peacefully and have a high level of political participation from the community. Synergy between all parties including the organizers and security forces is also expected to be well established so as to minimize the conflicts that occur. The democratic party which is being held for the first time in the Province of South West Papua is expected to be supported by the high enthusiasm of the community to jointly carry out the general election peacefully.
