Central Papua – The Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Central Papua Province, Jennifer Darling Tabuni, emphasized that his party acted purely to carry out state duties without partiality to certain candidates in the process of recapitulating the votes for the Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Papua in Puncak Jaya Regency. This statement was made after the circulation of a video accusing the Central Papua Provincial KPU of working with ‘God Entrepreneurs’ to intervene in the vote in favor of one particular candidate.
Jennifer Darling Tabuni clarified that the video circulating since this morning, Monday, December 16, 2024, did not reflect the actual reality. According to her, the video contains a false narrative, which mentions the involvement of the KPU with alleged money politics.
“The video records our meeting which actually aims to strengthen the institution and provide supervision to the KPU at the district level, especially Puncak Jaya. We met on the evening of Sunday, December 15, 2024, to ensure that the plenary stage of the recapitulation went well,” Jennifer said in a voice message shared through the JMSI Central Papua WhatsApp group.
Jennifer, along with the Data Division Coordinator, Marius Telenggen, and the Technical Division Coordinator, Indra Ola, emphasized that they were not involved in money politics as alleged. They also responded to allegations coming from Central Papua Provincial House of Representatives member Sony Geley, who appears in the video.
“We have nothing to do with the ‘God Entrepreneurs’ or the issue of money politics alleged in this video. If anyone feels they have evidence related to Pilkada violations, we encourage them to report it to the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu) or to the security forces to be processed according to the law,” he explained firmly.
According to Jennifer, the Central Papua KPU works based on applicable regulations and is committed to ensuring the smoothness and validity of each stage of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada.
“We only focus on state duties to ensure that vote recapitulation at the district level runs smoothly. Today we are ready to continue recapitulation at the district level and will continue to the provincial level,” he concluded.
With this clarification, the Central Papua KPU hopes to maintain public trust and ensure that the Pilkada process remains transparent and fair.
