Papua Mountain Province – Oksibil District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Mountains Province, will rely on its electricity from renewable energy. This happened after the Mini Hydro Power Plant (PLTM) with a capacity of 1 megawatt (MW) was completed and revitalized. The PLTM will replace the Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) which has so far been used to support the community’s electricity needs.

Head of the Communications, Public Information Services and Cooperation section of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Agus Cahyono Adi said that the revitalization of the PLTM is a de-dieselization program in the Oksibil District. Agus said that the PLTM would mean that the electricity flowing in the Oksibil District would use renewable energy for 24 hours.

Agus said in a written statement: “Replacing the PLTD which has been producing electricity there”. In addition on Tuesday (26/03/2024) Agus said “the construction of the 1 MW capacity PLTM used a multi-year contract mechanism and was completed in 2020.”

AHowever, there are obstacles in the operation of the PLTM because the construction of the power evacuation network that must be built by the Bintang Mountains Regency government has not been carried out. In 2023, the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) will revitalize PLTM Oksibil to maximize the performance of PLTM.

The revitalization has now been completed and the PLTM can function and be maximized well for the benefit of the community. Agus said: PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has also completed the construction of a Medium Voltage Distribution Network (JTM) from the PLTM location to Oksibil along an 18.5 circuit kilometer (kms).

In addition, based on agus :“Trials have been carried out to channel PLTM electrical power into the network,” The use of PLTM will result in huge savings for the local government. These savings are in the form of eliminating fuel oil (BBM) used for previous PLTD operations of IDR 49.14 million per day or reaching IDR 1.4 billion per month.

The next step is handing over the electricity operations of the Bintang Mountains Regency government to PT PLN. And with this, the efforts of the Bintang Mountains Regency government will immediately utilize 100 percent renewable energy properly for the continued benefit of the people of Oksibil District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Mountains Province.
