The Eastern Indonesia region is famous as a region that has successfully launched musicians with beautiful voices with various music genres. One of the music genres that is identical to the Eastern Indonesia Region, one of which is Papua, is reggae music. The Jayapura City Tourism Office realizes how great the potential of reggae music is among the community that not only reaches the local community but also at the national level and even abroad. Therefore, when there was a Rasta Kribo Community that intended to hold a reggae festival in Papua, the Tourism Office allowed and even helped to organize it so that the event could take place as lively as possible.
As one form of seriousness from the government, the reggae festival has been included in the annual event calendar so that it is certain that every year, a reggae festival will take place in Papua. Reggae music initiated by the legend Bob Marley has inspired the Papuan people with lyrics full of freedom and love for nature. The Papuan people who live depending on nature and continue to maintain its sustainability can certainly express it through reggae music that can be enjoyed by all levels of society. The reggae festival in Papua was attended not only by Papuan and Indonesian people, but also from neighboring countries, namely Papua New Guinea, also attended to enliven the event.
The potential of the reggae festival as an invitation to tourists certainly makes many interested parties, both from the local government, tourism office, and micro, small and medium business actors, start preparing themselves. The Rasta Kribo Community as the organizing committee certainly hopes for collaboration between all parties to be able to make the event a success and help to promote the event intensively in order to attract more visitors. The existence of the reggae festival has a huge impact on the economic activities of the community, especially in the tourism sector, such as increasing hotel room orders for visitors to stay. Such a large market potential can also be utilized to increase community income.
Reggae music is not original music from Papua, but that does not mean that there are no regional values carried through the reggae festival. The existence of a music event supported by the local government shows that there is support to appreciate reggae musicians from Papua and provide a stage for them to perform and introduce the music they have. The lyrics of the songs that will be sung are also the original work of native Papuan musicians with a mixture of Indonesian, English, and of course regional languages from Papua. Thus, there will be local content values in the reggae festival event. The hope of holding the reggae festival which will take place on October 19 in Jayapura City is that reggae musicians from Papua can express themselves and show their music to the public. In addition, the reggae festival is also expected to boost the economic activity of the community through tourism which can invite as many tourists as possible to watch the reggae festival.
