PAPUA PEGUNUNGAN – The Provincial Government of Papua Mountains together with the Jayawijaya Regency Government are compact in building the capital of the New Autonomous Region which is centered in Wamena, this was revealed in a coordination meeting held in the meeting room of the Jayawijaya Regent’s Office to discuss several development priority programs.
Acting Governor of Papua Mountains Dr. Velix Vernando Wanggai, S.IP, M.P.A stated that the Provincial Government of Papua Mountains is very concerned about Jayawijaya Regency because of its strategic position and the role of this region is several things, first as the Capital based on law number 16 of 2022 “Jayawijaya plays the role of many things such as the center of health, education, economic movement, logistics systems, connectivity, from the political side of decision making and the center of society across tribes and districts therefore we must pay attention to Jayawijaya in an integrated manner,” said Velix.
Velix admitted that in the context of this strategic role, there is an agenda discussed by the two governments, where this agenda has social, economic, cultural, educational and health meanings so that his party chooses activities that have strategic meaning but have iconic and monumental values in Jayawijaya as the capital of mountainous Papua, “we will fix the cross monument area which functions as a city icon in mountainous Papua, educational fields, Gor Wamena, then there are several points of the road in the city of Wamena, the Cultural Museum and Wamena Mall and clean water physically,” said Velix.
Acting Governor of Papua Mountains, there are also other priority programs in health such as improving the Wamena Regional General Hospital, although it is not a provincial hospital but also has a regional role, the education sector is Lapago’s flagship high school, and finally in the discussion, Wamena became an indicator because its institutions were ready so that information flowed to Jakarta, “the highest inflation in all of Indonesia is Papua Mountains Province 5.65 percent using indicators from Jayawijaya Regency from the Jayawijaya Central Bureau of Statistics so that it is very important for us together with the Acting Jayawijaya Regent because we cannot possibly go it alone to manage economic nodes such as the connectivity system from increased cargo flights.” he said.
Velix ensured that there are also other programs, it’s just that the Provincial Government will provide priorities or those intervened by the provincial government, the point is that the purchasing power of the community is better in the future because all the economic foundations are in Jayawijaya Regency, finally we also collaborate for the 79th Independence Day celebration, both Provincial and Regency will be made one on August 17, “we also agreed that there are several National Events that are jointly Pre-Event for the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival, and there is a mountainous Papua Coffee Festival, this is our agreement with the Acting Jayawijaya Regent,” he said.
In the same place, Acting Jayawijaya Regent Thony M. Mayor, Spd, MM stated what was conveyed by the Acting Governor of Papua mountains, the Jayawijaya Regency Government expressed its appreciation and gratitude because the Provincial Government will help the Jayawijaya Regency Government fix several icons such as the cross monument, Wamena education field, Wamena Sports Center and several other infrastructures in the city of Wamena, “in principle we are very grateful because today we can coordinate together, what is our complaint has also been conveyed by several heads of Regional Papuans related to the support of the Papua Mountain Province government,” he said.
