MANOKWARI – The Ministry of Public Works has completed the construction of Sanggeng Market as a safe, comfortable, clean, organized, more aesthetic and less slum trading facility in Manokwari Regency, West Papua.
The acceleration of market completion is carried out in order to support the improvement of service facilities and the convenience of people’s economic activities in fulfilling the distribution of basic needs in Manokwari Regency.
In a written statement, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti said that with the completion of the construction of a quality Sanggeng Market, it is hoped that the benefits can be felt directly by the people of Manokwari, especially in ensuring the distribution of basic commodities and helping to drive the real sector or MSMEs.
“Sanggeng Market, which is located in the center of Manokwari Regency, is expected to strengthen the community’s economy and become a major source of regional opinion. With the new market building, the Ministry of Public Works wants to ensure the provision of modern facilities, an orderly and clean environment, and easy access for the market community,” said Deputy Minister Diana.
The construction of Sanggeng Market has been carried out by the Ministry of PUPR through the West Papua Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), Directorate General (Ditjen) Cipta Karya since 2023 with a state budget of Rp 162.8 billion.
The market construction is carried out by the implementing contractor PT Nindya Karya including structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) works.
Sanggeng Market stands on an area of 27,809 square meters with a 3-storey building design with a building area of 21,519 square meters.
The construction work of Sanggeng Market has been adjusted to the harmony of the environment that maintains local wisdom values, so that traders and buyers feel comfortable.
The market building consists of the first floor covering an area of 6,160 square meters, the second floor covering an area of 5,101 square meters, and the third floor covering an area of 5,101 square meters with a total of 394 units of stalls and 1,016 units of merchant lots.
Sanggeng Market is expected to support the trade of goods and services in meeting the daily needs of the community, especially being located not far from the port and the Manokwari fish auction center, so that it can support economic growth.
