Papuan athletes win gold in women’s 5-point sea diving PON XXI

SABANG – Female diving athlete from Papua, Faradhilah A Hehanusa made a brilliant achievement by winning a gold medal in the women’s 5-point number at the 2024 Aceh-Sumut National Sports Week (PON) XXI. Faradhilah appeared dominant by recording the highest score of 1456 points, beating her competitors from West Java (Jabar) and Maluku.

West Java’s Angela Patrisia Vanya had to settle for the silver medal after scoring 1414 points. While Astrit Marsella Teng from Maluku won bronze with 1399 points. Faradhilah expressed her pride at this achievement.

He emphasized that the result was the result of hard work and intensive training. “I am very proud of this achievement. Heavy training and careful preparation finally paid off with a gold medal at PON XXI,” said Faradhilah, Thursday (19/9/2024).

Technical Delegate (TD), Sanny Limbunan highlighted the big challenge in the women’s 5 point race.  According to him, this number requires athletes to have good underwater navigation skills and efficiency in completing the route.

“It’s not just about physicality, but also technical and navigational skills. Faradhilah showed dominance in this race,” said Sanny.

At PON XXI Aceh – North Sumatra, there were three main categories in women’s sea diving, namely women’s 5 point, women’s M course, and open water fins.  Competition in each category was tight, with each athlete trying to perform their best. Faradhilah’s success is an inspiration for the younger generation. Especially female athletes who aspire to make achievements in national diving sports.
