Mountainous Papuan Marathon Athlete Successfully Crosses Finish Line

Papua Mountains – The marathon running match of the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON), athletes from Papua Mountains Province successfully crossed the finish line. Of the approximately eighteen marathon athletes who competed, two of them were athletes from Papua Mountains, on behalf of Edi Wenda and Adar.

The match which took place on September 19, 2024 that morning, Edi Wenda with a running number 250, was able to record his name in sixth place. Meanwhile, Adar with running number 249 was able to record his name at number nine. Both athletes successfully reached the finish line.

Secretary of KONI Papua Mountains, Timothy Matuan said, on behalf of KONI gave high appreciation with this extraordinary achievement.

“There are many athletes from various provinces who compete and most of them fall and do not reach the finish line, but our two athletes can get to the finish line which is a very extraordinary achievement, so we really appreciate it,” said the Secretary of KONI Papua Mountains, Timothy Matuan.

Timothy said, very proud also because, as a new province that first participated in PON but was able to compete with a number of old provinces.

“Indeed, these two athletes did not win the championship but represented a new province that could reach the finish, of course it was a very satisfying result for us as first-time PON participants,” Timothy said.

Timothy expressed his gratitude to Edi Wenda and Adar who have raised the good name of the Papua Mountains region in the national sports arena.
