MERAUKE, SOUTH PAPUA – In the Voter Data Compilation and Updating activities carried out by the South Papua Provincial General Election Commission, the Chairperson of the South Papua Election Supervisory Board became a resource person held at Swissbell Hotel Merauke on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 with participants from the South Papua Regency General Election Commission and elements of political parties. The activity was opened by the Chairman of the General Election Commission of South Papua Province Theresia Mahuze, SH and attended by Forkompinda Elements of South Papua Province.

The Chairman of the South Papua Election Supervisory Agency said that the preparation and updating of voter data is the most basic stage to guard the Constitutional Rights of citizens in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections. The preparation and updating of voter data data is not just synchronizing voter data but also ensuring that citizens can exercise their voting rights, the preparation and updating of voter data in accordance with the General Election Commission Decree Number 2 of 2024 concerning Stages and Schedules for the Election of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents and Mayors and Deputy Mayors in 2024 carried out from May 3, 2024 to September 23, 2024.

Quality voter data must at least fulfill the elements of being accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive, and the problems that arise always revolve around the same problems:

  1. Inaccuracies in voter data,
  2. Double voter lists are still found,
  3. Data on voters who have passed away,
  4. Underage voters,
  5. Voters who have passed away and so on.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the South Papua Election Supervisory Board also said that updating data is very important related to dynamic changes in population status, being married and changing status from members of the TNI or Polri to civilians and there are still voters who have not been registered in the permanent voter list and there is a tendency for high population movements, “we from the Election Supervisory Board elements at all levels will ensure that every citizen who is eligible to get their voting rights, so we carry out inherent supervision at all stages of the 2024 election,” said Marman, Chairman of the South Papua Election Supervisory Board.

This was carried out by Bawaslu as a form of supervision both related to the synchronization of the Election Potential Voters List with the Final Election Permanent Voters List because there were voters who were not eligible, voters who were eligible but had not been included in the 2024 Election Permanent Voters List and on the other hand Bawaslu requested that the General Election Commission be selective in giving directions to Pantarlih in carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
