The development carried out in Papua includes development whose impacts can be felt by all people living in all regions of Papua Province. Indigenous Papuans are the main focus of attention in designing and implementing development. However, the impact of development in Papua is also felt by migrants who then settle in Papua for quite a long period of time. Migrants living in Papua have various reasons for coming and one of them is professional demands. The Republic of Indonesia Police is one of the professions that assigns several of its members to work in Papua. So, the development in Papua is also development that supports the duties of the Republic of Indonesia Police.
In order to support the maximum performance of the Republic of Indonesia Police, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing took the initiative to build flats for police officers serving in Papua to live in. The flats were built as facilities provided by police officers who came from outside Papua Province. The flats were built near the Papua Province Regional Police Headquarters. The purpose of building flats close to headquarters is to make it easier for commandos to carry out their duties.
The Republic of Indonesia Police on duty in Papua do not only take care of security matters. However, those assigned are selected members with sufficient abilities to help with development in Papua. It is not surprising that when people who are Indigenous Papuans are carrying out activities, the police help to make the activities a success. In fact, when Indigenous Papuans were building a traditional house, several members of the police and also members of the Indonesian National Army helped. Thus, the role of police officers is indeed quite large and beneficial for the entire Papuan people apart from their main obligation, namely maintaining security and upholding law and justice.
Appreciation for members of the Republic of Indonesia police who served in Papua was one of the reasons why they were given flats to live in. Those who initially during their education were used to living in police barracks with various rules that taught them the meaning of discipline certainly felt happy when they were given facilities in the form of flats. Police officers are no longer confused about finding a house as a place to live during their service in Papua.
The plan is for the construction of flats for members of the Republic of Indonesia police on duty in Papua to consist of 44 rooms divided into three floors. The construction of flats also uses the best materials so that they can be lived in for a long time. Apart from that, the construction of flats will utilize land owned by the Papua Provincial Police. So that the construction of flats will become a facility that is legally owned by the police agency.
