“Skouw Crossborder Festival” Driving the Economy and Tourism of Jayapura, Papua

JAYAPURA – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy or Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf or Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno hopes that the Skouw Crossborder Festival will become an economic driver for the Papuan people as well as a means to strengthen Indonesia’s cooperation and friendship relations, especially Papua with Papua New Guinea in promoting the tourism potential and creative economy of both.

In the Skouw Crossborder Festival event, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno greeted residents at PLBN Skouw, Papua. Menparekraf also thanked all parties for the implementation of the crossborder event for the third time, Menparekraf Sandiaga in his remarks at the Skouw Crossborder Festival, which took place at PLBN Skouw, Papua was grateful for the re-organization of the third Skouw Crossborder Festival, because previously it was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

This event is an implementation of President Joko Widodo’s directive to present various events in all regions in Indonesia in order to equalize the economy of the community.

“I thank all parties involved, this is the third event of the Crossborder Festival and this is part of us strengthening brotherhood, driving the economy, and achieving our common goal to rise from the pandemic,” said Menparekraf Sandiaga.

The Crossboder Festival is also enlivened by the presence of 32 MSME booths that market culinary products, fashion, crafts, which come from various regions in Papua, ranging from the Skouw Market, Keerom and Jayapura Regency MSMEs, to traditional areas in Papua and for coffee lovers, there is also a coffee exhibition where people can directly buy coffee beans or brewed coffee.

The 1,000-1,500 people from Papua and Papua New Guinea who attended the Crossborder Festival were entertained with a series of performances by performers such as Epo Fenomeno, Dave Solution, and MAC and did not miss the Jayapura artist community such as Blager (KAMU AKU 2022 Finalist), Marching Band SMAN 2 Jayapura, as well as the Papua Modern Dance Freedom Squad group and Acoustic Vakalas Papua from the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) community.

This Crossborder Festival involves various stakeholders from BNPP, PLBN, Indonesian Consulate in Vanimo, TNI, POLRI, Jayapura City Dispar, Local Government, private sector, “Lelarian Sana Sini” running community, to the community so that this event runs smoothly.

Fun running as far as 5 Kilometers closed the series of activities of the Skouw Corssborder Festival, Menparekraf Sandiaga and his staff and the running community “Lelarian Sana Sini” participated in the running sport.

Accompanying the Menparekraf were Special Staff of the Menparekraf for Tourism Destination Security and Strategic Issues of the Kemenparekraf or Baparekraf, Brigadier General Ario Prawiseso, Deputy for Tourism Products and Events Organizers of the Kemenparekraf or Baparekraf, Vincent Jemadu and Director of National and International Events, Dessy Ruhati, and Director of Ecraf Marketing, Erwita Dianti.
