JAYAPURA, PAPUA – As Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Papua Special Autonomy Development KH Ma’ruf Amin and several members of the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of PPN or Head of Bappenas and Minister of Finance, the presence of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia KH Ma’ruf Amin in Wamena aims to ensure consolidation steps to accelerate the development of Papua in 2024 and map the obstacles faced in the consolidation, as well as prepare a foundation framework for Papua management for the new Government after the Presidential Election (Pilpres) on February 14, 2024.

During a meeting with the Regional Government of Papua Mountains, the leadership of the Papuan People’s Assembly, religious leaders, traditional leaders, youth leaders and educational leaders, the Vice President said that the Laa Pago region has become a concern in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan with various cross-sector priority projects.

Acting Governor of Papua Mountains Velix Wanggai said Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin is well aware of the challenges in developing in mountainous areas with difficult geographical and topographical conditions. The population is scattered in mountains, valleys and limited accessibility between regions.

The visit of Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin to Papua Mountains according to Acting Governor Velix Wanggai, as a new spirit to the New Autonomous Region to strengthen the consolidation of the acceleration of the development of Papua Mountains, the activities include:

  1. Extension of the Wamena airport run way,
  2. Construction of the 50 Km Elelim – Benawa segment of the Trans Papua road with the Government and Business Entity Cooperation scheme,
  3. Construction of Wamena airport VIP building,
  4. Development of food centers in Jayawijaya and Yahukimo,
  5. Jayawijaya clean water development and 24-hour electricity development in Lanny Jaya Regency, especially in Tiom City.

During the visit of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Ma’ruf Amin to his region, Velix Wanggai said there were several messages from the Vice President, the message was the importance of mapping the region appropriately in the Papua Mountains Province and where each district has potential with its own uniqueness.

As the Vice President who is also the Chairman of BP3OKP gave an example so that the Papua Mountains Provincial Government formulated the role of Pegunungan Bintang Regency on the border of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, the role of Yahukimo Regency as a gateway from the south of Papua, the role of Yalimo Regency as a gateway from the north of Papua, as well as full attention to Nduga Regency to lift the welfare of the OAP community in Nduga.

There are four messages from Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin for the land of Wamena:

  1. Inviting all parties to be grateful for the presence of the Papua Mountains Province as a blessing from God Almighty,
  2. Requesting Ministries or Institutions and Regional Governments to formulate a comprehensive strategy to reduce the level of high cost in the Papua Mountains,
  3. Accelerate the opening of isolated areas for basic services and the development of regional superior commodities,
  4. Encourage the presence of food center areas to produce affordable food stocks according to community needs.

Indonesian Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin emphasized that ministries or institutions ensure technical steps to prepare and implement the construction of provincial government infrastructure centers in 2024, “I also ask the Provincial Government of Papua Mountains to continue to open space for communication with the community in supporting the acceleration of regional development,” said Indonesian Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin.

The fourth message from Indonesian Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin for religious and community leaders is expected to convey narratives and communication intensively and inclusively to ward off hoaxes that are counterproductive to the government’s efforts to build peace and prosperity in Papua.

Along with his visit to Papua Mountains, Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin emphasized that it marks the beginning of a strong effort and determination to build the welfare of the whole community in all corners of the Papua Mountains Province.

After delivering his remarks, Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin accompanied by Mrs. Hj Wury Ma’ruf Amin, Acting Governor Velix Wanggai and Mrs. Hj Herwin Wanggai, greeted choir children from GKI Bethlehem Wamena and Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin also greeted noken craftsmen and local artworks, as well as fashion made from noken and talked with coffee activists from Wamena Franki Gombo and Aben Lagowan, An Meke cafe barista, Teguh who introduced Tangma Yahukimo coffee, and on that occasion, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia KH Ma’ruf Amin and Mrs. Hj Wury Ma’ruf Amin were given a painting made of bark with a picture of the face of the Vice President and Mrs. Hj Wury Amin and to hand over balls and soccer shirts to soccer children from the Central Core Government Area Walesi – Wouma.
