The match held at the Mandala Jayapura Stadium was the 6th match in a series of match schedules since the start of the season. The struggle of the Persipura players who had put in all their efforts to get full points received appreciation from the supporters and also the coach who is a living legend of the club, Ricardo Salampessy.

The Papua Derby match between Persipura Jayapura and Persewar Waropen was one of the most awaited matches. Moreover, the coaches of the two clubs are football legends from Papua who have also plays for the Indonesian National Team, namely Ricardo Salampessy as Persipura coach and Eduard Ivakdalam as Persewar coach. The match titled Derby is even more interesting because both clubs have not won since the season started last August. Therefore, this match is predicted to be a fierce match that will be entertaining for football lovers.

Players who are now plays for Persipura Jayapura include those who have plays for the Indonesian National Team such as Boaz Salossa and also Ramai Rumakiek. However, Boaz is not the main choice to fill the position as a striker for tactical reasons and also player fitness. The Persipura coach is also in no hurry to immediately play Boaz because there are still many match schedules until the end of the season. Persewar Waropen also does not want to lose in quality by fielding all its best players in the Papua Derby match.

The course of the match since the first half was dominated by Persipura. The players who are motivated and feel confident to achieve their first victory this season started the match with the initiative to attack. The result was that Persipura managed to score the first goal in the 30th minute through Arodi Uopdana and that was the only goal in the first half. Persipura Jayapura temporarily won in the first half against Persewar Waropen.

Early in the second half, Persewar began to try to find a gap in Persipura’s defense to equalize the score. However, they conceded again through Ramai Rumakiek’s kick in the 60th minute which doubled Persipura’s lead. Seven minutes later, in the 67th minute, Persewar scored a goal through Fiktor Pae. The goal was the last goal in the Papua Derby match.

Persipura Jayapura managed to win over a club that also came from Papua and it was a very important first victory to increase the motivation of the players to try harder to win again in the next matches. The hope of the coaches, both Persipura and Persewar, is that at the end of the season, the two clubs can continue to achieve positive results and achieve their target of being promoted to Liga 1 Indonesia.
