Kenny Tirza presents gold for Papua Mountains from the Billiards sport

Papua Mountains – Billiards from the Papua Mountains team Kenny Tirza Chandra won the gold medal after defeating East Java representative Emilia Putri Rahmanda in the final match number 10 ball single women’s billiards branch PON Aceh-Sumut 2024 at Pardede Hall, Medan, Sunday.

Kenny was able to overcome Emilia’s tight resistance in the final match which lasted 12 set with a score 7-5.

Emilia opened the scoring by winning the first game to make it 1-0. Her dominance did not last long after Kenny secured the second set to equalize 1-1.

The two billiards players chased each other’s scores to create 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 draws several times.

Subsequently, Kenny was able to take over the game by winning two consecutive sets to change the score to 6-4.

She needed just one win to wrap up the match, but Emilia rallied to catch up by increasing her score to 5-6.

The end of the next set was filled with drama as Emilia had a chance to win. Unfortunately, Emilia’s final shot to get the 10 ball in was followed by a white ball in, turning the match in Kenny’s favor.

“It was really lucky (for me), I can’t say,” Kenny said of the final set when met by ANTARA after the match.

She admitted, in terms of performance, Emilia played well and developed further. She was also aware of her opponent’s abilities so she continued to keep the ball and maximize opportunities to collect point after point.

Kenny admitted that he was happy to present the first medal in the billiards branch for Papua Mountains directly with the gold medal.

He said, the gold achieved was beyond expectations and the previous target of reaching the top four. “In the team I also said, I want to be in the top four first, the rest is a bonus. And thank God I got the gold,” he said.

At PON Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 which took place during September 9-19, the billiards branch competed in five classes, namely men’s pool, women’s pool, carom, english billiard, and snooker.

The tournament was attended by 127 male athletes and 14 female athletes. The athletes came from 32 provinces, namely, Bali, Yogyakarta Special Region, East Java, Central Java, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, Bengkulu.

Jambi, Riau, Riau Islands, South Sumatra, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Aceh Special Region, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan.

In addition, Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, Papua Mountains, West Papua, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo.
