Merauke – White shrimp or Penaeus merguensis from Merauke began to be ogled by foreign markets. Unmitigated hundreds of white shrimp were sent to the capital of Papua Province through Mopah Airport cargo.

“This can be seen in the Online Fish Quarantine Inspection Application Service System (Sister Karoline), there is a request for 400 kg of white shrimp loaded in 11 coli for Jayapura,” said South Papua Quarantine Advanced Fish Pest Disease Control Technician, Liswiyanto.

Liswiyanto explained that white shrimp are found in Merauke. Usually, local people take shrimp around the coast to the sea and then catch it using a net.

South Papua Quarantine conducted a number of checks, namely administrative and physical examination of carrier media. Administratively, the carrier media sent is in accordance with the amount requested.

“Physically, after organoleptic examination, the quality of white shrimp is classified as good so that a Certificate of Health of Fish and Domestic Fishery Products (KI-D2) document is issued,” added Liswiyanto.

Separately, the Head of South Papua Quarantine, Cahyono expressed his pride with the increasing number of fishery commodities that can penetrate foreign markets. “This means that white shrimp can compete with other regions. With more routine traffic to outside areas, it will increase the opinions of fishermen. Quarantine is ready to provide services by ensuring the carrier media is healthy and safe for consumption,” Cahyono concluded.
