WAMENA, PAPUA PEGUNUNGAN – The Papua Highlands Election Commission has released a provisional list of candidates for Regent in 8 Papua Highlands districts.
Based on Silon data from the Papua Mountains General Election Commission as of August 29, 2024 at 23:59 WIT, there are 24 Candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent who will compete in 8 districts.

Commissioner of the Technical Division of the Papua Mountains General Election Commission, Melkianus Kambu, explained that the registration of participants in the 2024 Regional Head Election was closed on August 29 at 23:59 WIT and registration was carried out online and manually, “For 8 districts there are 23 people who have registered in the Silon application, but there are also those who register manually or come to register at the last minute, because there are those who have B1KWK which should be for candidate pair A, but political parties issue recommendations for candidate pair B,” said Melkianus Kambu.
The General Election Commission of Papua Mountains also received 2 pairs of candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of the 2024 Regional Head Election. They are Befa Yigibalom-Natan Pahabol, and Jhon Tabo-Ones Pahabol, “in principle, the registration of candidates for Regional Heads in the Province and 8 districts went well from August 27-29, 2024,” said Melkianus Kambu.
Melkianus said that there were findings of double cases of party support or one party issued two recommendations for candidate pairs, for the Governor Election, the findings of double support were PAN, while in Yahukimo Regency, PPP, “The General Election Commission is obliged to accept first, then it will send an official letter to the central leadership of the party in question together with the Election Supervisory Agency. This is to clarify to the DPP management through the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
Melkianus added that the Papua Mountains General Election Commission will use the basis of clarification to the DPP regarding double support in the 2024 Regional Head Election. “So that is the basis (clarification) that we use that the actual recommendation to which candidate pair,” he said.
