PAPUA – Randy Hanson Christian May has made it into Persebaya’s main squad for League 1 2024/2025. Paul Munster and the Persebaya coaching team gave a good assessment of the 23-year-old player from Sentani, Papua, already played twice in trials against Persibo and the East Java PON Team, the 183 cm tall player was tough to guard the Persebaya defense.

Randy’s journey with Persebaya this season is his second chance in League 1 and an opportunity that may not come again, if he does not maximize this opportunity well, “since in Balikpapan I am determined to return to penetrate the League 1, Praise God I passed the Persebaya trial and of course I will fight hard to maximize this opportunity and play as well as possible for Persebaya,” said Randy.

Randy, who is of Papuan-Ternate descent, started his career at SSB Orion Sentani and from there Randy entered the Papua Student Sports Education and Training Center (PLPP) in 2017. In 2018, Randy was recruited by Persewar Waropen, Randy who plays as a center back helped bring Persewar promotion to League 2 and thanks to his brilliant performance, Randy also entered the Papua National Sports Week (PON) Team and in the PON Papua Team, Randy won gold at PON XX in West Java. In the final, Papua beat Aceh 2-0, “about the soccer climate in Surabaya, I have no problem. Since the beginning I have been trained to work hard, fight until the end,” said Randy.

Randy got his first chance to play in League 1 in 2022, and Randy was recruited by Dewa United, Randy did not get many minutes to play and so was loaned to Karo United, in 2023 Randy changed clubs again, moving to Persiba Balikpapan which competed in League 2, “For League 1 preparation it is different from League 2, honing mentally is my focus,” said Randy.

At Persiba last season, Randy paired up with senior center back M. Roby and Randy made 11 appearances with 26 tackles, 38 interceptions and 29 sweeps.

Randy’s extended family in Sentani were also happy that Randy could penetrate the Persebaya first team and they also gave full support, also advised Randy to take good care of himself by making the best use of the golden opportunity, “I am very happy, family and friends are proud and there are many words and advice from them, hopefully I can continue to achieve gold at the junior level at Persebaya,” he said.
