WAMENA, JAYAWIJAYA – Papua Mountains Province is one of the three new autonomous regions resulting from regional expansion in Papua and with the establishment of this Province, the Government is increasingly focused on formulating development strategies that are in accordance with local wisdom and regional context. “Approaches based on local wisdom and regional context can strengthen community acceptance and support and reduce the potential for conflict so that the implementation of development strategies becomes more relevant and effective,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President, who also serves as Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy for Papua (BP3OKP), revealed that the Government fully understands the challenges faced in developing the Papua Mountains region with difficult geographical and topographical conditions, a population scattered in mountains and valleys, and limited accessibility between regions, such as in the Laa Pago customary area. “Attention to the Laa Pago customary area has been emphasized in the 2020-2024 RPJMN as one of the strategic priority programs in order to accelerate the development of this customary area,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President said that proper regional mapping in the Papua Mountains region is very important because each Regency in this Province has its own unique potential. “For example, formulate the role of Pegunungan Bintang Regency on the border of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, the role of Yahukimo Regency as a gateway from the south of Papua, the role of Yalimo Regency as a gateway from the north of Papua, or formulate programs to improve health, education, and living standards with the main target of indigenous Papuans in Nduga Regency,” explained the Vice President.
By understanding the characteristics of each region, according to the Vice President, the Government will be able to formulate policies and development programs that are more targeted and avoid ineffective allocation of resources. “On this good occasion, I will launch a national strategic program, namely the Extension of the Wamena Airport Runway and the Construction of the Trans Papua Wamena-Jayapura National Road, as well as the launch of the Papua Mountains Province strategic program including the Development of the Central Core Area of the Papua Mountains Province Government Center, the Jayawijaya Regency Food Center Area, the Electricity Program in Lanny Jaya Regency, and the Drinking Water Management System in Jayawijaya Regency,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President hopes that the various programs will really have an impact and benefit the community so that they can increase economic growth, equitable development, and the welfare of the people in the Papua Mountains Province. “I would like to thank all parties, especially the people of Papua Mountains for their struggle to form the big house of Papua Mountains Province,” said the Vice President.
