SORONG, WEST PAPUA DAYA – In order to welcome the 1st Anniversary, on June 14, 2024 the Indonesian Community Recreational Sports Committee (KORMI) of Southwest Papua (PBD) held a Community Sports Festival. The peak of the Festival event held at Ramayana Mall, Sorong City, was officially opened by the Chairman of KORMI PBD Edison Siagian accompanied by the General Secretary, Yusdi Lamatenggo which began with a Tifa blow as a sign of the start of the Festival event.
Chairman of the Indonesian Community Recreational Sports Committee of Southwest Papua Edison Siagian in his speech said the 2024 Southwest Papua Community Sports Festival was carried out in addition to welcoming the first Anniversary of the Indonesian Community Recreational Sports Committee of Southwest Papua, as well as looking for the best sons and daughters to compete at the National level, “the theme of our festival is “The Spirit of Recreational Sports” so in addition to looking for activists to be prepared to compete we also exist in an atmosphere of welcoming the 1st Anniversary of the Indonesian Community Recreational Sports Committee of Southwest Papua,” said Edison Siagian.
He hopes that by holding this Festival, it can provide enthusiasm for activists who will compete in FORNAS NTB 2025 and invite the people of Southwest Papua to always live healthy, fit and happy.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Festival Committee Novita Taniauw, stated that the activity held at Ramayana Mall Sorong City is an entertainment for the community, especially so that people can get to know more about KORMI, “so that people will know more about what KORMI is and in the future people can be moved and take part in developing talents in community sports (Inorga),” she said.
Novita also hopes that with this activity, KORMI PBD can play a more active role in developing human resources from the younger generation of Papua so that the younger generation of Papua can achieve achievements in their respective fields.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of KORMI Southwest Papua, Yusdi Lamatenggo, added that the Festival is a place to measure the expertise of each parent sport in KORMI-PBD, “in order to determine which superior seeds are ready to compete at the national level, then through the festival we can filter, then this is also a form of socialization in introducing KORMI and its functions to the people of Southwest Papua,” he said.
For information, the Community Sports Festival is the first activity of the KORMI PBD board held in order to welcome the 1st Anniversary of KORMI PBD. The Festival is planned to be held for 6 days with various competition activities.
