South West Papua has the potential to develop athletes in cycling. Young cyclists in South West Papua want to achieve the highest possible target at the national level, namely participating in the National Sports Week in the future. Many parties need attention to be able to provide support for young cyclists who intend to become professional athletes. Starting from providing facilities and no less important is collecting information for prospective athletes so they can be officially registered. Therefore, the Provincial Management of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association was formed and appointed. It is hoped that the existence of an official body that oversees all cycling athletes in South West Papua will be the main supporter of the athletes’ development.

Cycling became an officially registered sport in the Indonesian National Sports Committee after the formation of the Provincial Management of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association in South West Papua. At least, one step has been passed in the long journey towards preparations for taking part in National Sports Week. The management at the organization is in no rush to take part in the most prestigious national scale competition in Indonesia. In fact, the closest target that is considered the most realistic is to be able to include at least two athlete representatives from the cycling sport at the National Sports Week in 2028. This means that there is still enough time to prepare everything.

The existence of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association Provincial Management in South West Papua has boosted the enthusiasm of prospective cycling athletes in South West Papua. Having official management will of course make it easier to become a professional athlete. It is also hoped that a lot of assistance will be provided to support prospective athletes. Starting from assistance with training facilities, such as bicycle tracks, bicycles used for racing, and also various kinds of equipment that support the safety of prospective athletes such as helmets and elbow and knee protectors. Apart from training facilities, it is hoped that prospective athletes will also be provided with other supporting facilities such as welfare for them, especially for those who still hold student status, namely a minimum scholarship.

Cycling is a sport that is familiar among the people of South West Papua where bicycles have become a popular means of transportation, especially for children. Cycling has become increasingly popular after various cycling events were held in Papua. So that the children there have the desire to become athletes when they grow up to compete in various competitions bearing the name of South West Papua. The existence of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association Provincial Management in South West Papua is the beginning of a synergy that can be formed between prospective cycling athletes and stakeholders, especially from the government, who facilitate all preparations to create professional cycling athletes from Southwest Papua.
