Jayapura – Universitas Cenderawasih (Uncen) held the Lecturer and Employee Cup I Futsal Tournament in order to celebrate the 62nd Anniversary at Mega Futsal Abepura Field, Jayapura, Papua.

The tournament lasted for five days, starting from October 28 to November 1, 2024, and involved 14 teams from various faculties, including postgraduate teams and education personnel.

Chairman of the committee, Maik Akobiarek, SPd MPd, who is also a lecturer at Uncen’s Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), explained that this tournament was the first time it was held specifically for Uncen lecturers and employees. He hopes that this activity can be a refreshing event for lecturers and staff who work in front of computers every day.

“In addition to being a sporting event, this activity is expected to strengthen the sense of togetherness and intimacy between teams,” Akobiarek said.

Dean of FKIP Uncen, Dr. Yan Dirk Wabiser, SPd MHum, also considered this year’s anniversary special because it coincided with the 62nd anniversary of Uncen, which was born in 1962.

“This anniversary is special because we are celebrating the 62nd age, a moment full of meaning for Uncen,” he said.

Wabiser emphasized the importance of sportsmanship in this match, and reminded each player to maintain social harmony.

“Play the ball, not the opponent’s feet. If you have committed a violation, help your opponent stand up, apologize, and continue the match with an atmosphere full of friendship,” Wabiser said.

He also hopes that through this match it can strengthen the kinship between lecturers and Uncen education personnel. On the other hand, Wabiser reminded the referee to be neutral and carry out his duties well so that the match runs smoothly.

This futsal tournament is not only welcoming the Anniversary, but also part of Uncen’s efforts to improve performance through Key Performance Indicators (IKU), which support faculty accreditation in higher education.
