Kemenparekraf Improves the Quality of Tourism Human Resources in Raja Ampat, West Papua

PAPUA – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy / Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf / Babarekraf) strengthens the human resources (HR) of tourism actors in Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua.

Menparekraf / Kabaparekraf Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in his statement, Wednesday (2/10/2024) said that the strengthening of human resources was carried out through Tourism Awareness Training with material related to the role of pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Groups) and marketing of tourism products through digital media on September 24-25, 2024. According to Sandiaga, quality human resources are an important key in advancing the parekraf sector in Indonesia, especially in Raja Ampat.

“We believe that human resources are very important. So investment in our human resources is the key to ensuring the progress of our tourism,” Sandiaga said.

In addition, Sandiaga said this training was also a follow-up to the enactment of Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2024 concerning the Raja Ampat National Tourism Destination Master Plan (RIPDN) for 2024-2044. Director of Tourism Human Resources Development at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ika Kusuma Permana Sari, said Raja Ampat as one of the tourist destinations in Indonesia needs to explore its potential to the maximum and this requires the presence of qualified human resources.

“HR development is needed in Raja Ampat, as one of the priority tourism destinations, with good HR capacity is expected to support the creation of sustainable tourism destination governance, able to encourage economic benefits for local communities, and able to preserve culture and the environment,” said Ika.

The training was attended by participants from Saporkren Tourism Village, Paam Tourism Village, Saukabu Tourism Village, and Saupapir Tourism Village. The materials presented included the tourism benefit chain, the role and function of pokdarwis, and the preparation of pokdarwis action plans, introduction to digital marketing, utilization of digital marketing and onboarding of tourism products to online platforms by presenting presenters from the East Java Ecotourism Forum (EJEF), Agus Wiyono, and Atourin CEO, Benarivo Triadi Putra.

“After this training, participants are expected to gain knowledge and be able to implement the work program plan of the tourism awareness group, be able to utilize online platforms to help market tourism products and the resulting creative economy, and be able to encourage the growth of inclusive and sustainable tourism,” said Ika.
