PAPUA PEGUNUNGAN – The government and people of Papua Mountains Province should be proud because at the Commemoration of the 44th National Craft Council (Dekranas) Day and the 52nd Movement Unity Day as well as the National Jamboree of PKK Cadres 2024 which was held at Balekambang Park Solo, Central Java, Thursday (15/5/2024), the Papua Mountains PKK won first place in the Dekranas 2024 Craft and Culture Decorative Car Parade Competition.
In the competition, the Papua Mountains Province presented a unique and natural design in the form of honai, with mountains, trees and war lookout towers in the background and accompanied by a number of Papuan models with original noken dresses and typical mountain music, the display of the Papua Mountains Province float received sympathy and applause from the jury and thousands of spectators. The winners in this ornamental competition are Papua Mountains Province 1st place, East Bariot Regency 2nd place, Solo City 3rd place, South Papua Province 1st runner-up, Kapuas Hulu Regency 2nd runner-up and West Nusa Tenggara 3rd runner-up.
The commemoration of the 44th anniversary of Dekranas this year with the theme Growing Together to Advance the Nation’s Heritage is expected to be able to invite the Indonesian people to participate in maintaining and developing craft and wastra products which are Indonesia’s rich heritage.
In her statement, Ibu Iriana also appreciated the central and regional Dekranas ladies who attended by wearing wastra from each region. The diversity of wastra in more detail can be seen in the Dekranas Expo 2024 which is also held in Surakarta City. Ibu Iriana opened the exhibition that was held in Central Java.
Chairperson of Dekranas Mrs. Wury Ma’ruf Amin said that Dekranas has become one of the main milestones in developing the potential of the craft industry in Indonesia. Since its establishment 44 years ago, Dekranas’ long journey has been full of proud achievements with Indonesian handicraft industry products that have received recognition both at home and abroad, “this cannot be separated from the role of crafters, designers, academics, media and MSME players as well as government support, and related institutions that elevate the wealth of Indonesian cultural products to the world stage,” said Mrs. Wury, however, various dynamics and challenges ahead must be faced by continuing to innovate, collaborate and adapt. To that end, Mrs. Wury invited crafters to continue developing skills, maintaining product quality, and expanding marketing networks.
The Chairperson of the Family Welfare Empowerment Movement Team (TP-PKK) of Papua Mountains Province Nonya Hermin M Wanggai S.IP M.Pd expressed her pride and appreciation to the entire PKK team who had made the province of Papua Mountains proud of the first place achievement in the Dekranas 2024 Craft and Culture Decorative Car Parade Competition, and she also expressed her gratitude to First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and Vice President Wury Ma’ruf Amin as well as the General Chairperson of the PKK Movement Team (TP-PKK) Tri Tito Karnavian who visited the Papua Mountains stand.
