Cultural carnival in Southwest Papua Province

SORONG – The Southwest Papua Province Level Cultural Carnival in order to celebrate the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in Sorong City, Monday (19/8/2024) was lively. The Southwest Papua Provincial Government held a cultural carnival in commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia while displaying the harmonization of each tribe and religion in the province. The participants started the carnival from the State Medium Fisheries Business School (SUPM) of Sorong City and then finished at Merpati Street, the mayor’s office complex as well as the governor’s office.

Participants from schools and the public appeared wearing a variety of traditional clothing, creative clothing, and other independence nuanced attributes. There were also dance attractions, drumband performed by participants at a number of points, especially at the finish line where there were tents of officials and other invitees.

Officials who attended included Acting Governor of Southwest Papua Mohammad Musaad along with Expert Staff of Governor Ekubang George Yarangga, Acting Mayor of Sorong Bernhard E Rondonuwu, Secretary of Sorong City Yakob Kareth and other officials.

Mohammad Musa’ad said that through this Cultural Carnival can unite and familiarize various cultures in Southwest Papua Province. “Through this Cultural Carnival so that we can unite in a common line,” he said.

He also said that the existence of this Cultural Carnival can grab various attention ranging from the community to the government and the private sector to enliven the carnival. According to him, the committee has prepared a rotating trophy for the winner of the carnival. “That means that this Cultural Carnival activity will continue and participants will continue to compete for the rotating trophy champion,” he said.

Mohammad Musa’ad also hopes that this activity can unite togetherness with the community in one common goal. This is as the slogan “Kitorang Kuat Karena Kitorang Satu” to build an independent, just and prosperous Southwest Papua Province.
