Merauke – The General Election Commission (KPU) of South Papua Province reminds all prospective candidates to prepare themselves for this five-year democratic party by completing the candidate requirements according to regulations. In accordance with the Election Law and PKPU, each candidate must complete the candidate requirements and nomination requirements.

“The prospective candidates who want to advance in the elections I ask to study PKPU number 8 of 2024 where there are candidate requirements and nomination requirements, this must be fulfilled if they want to contest the elections both Governor-Vice Governor and Regent and Deputy Regent,” said South Papua Province KPU Commissioner Helda Ambay.

For educational requirements, each candidate must at least graduate from high school as evidenced by a diploma legalized by the school of origin or the head of the local district office. As for the use of a degree, it is also required to include proof of a diploma legalized by the campus of origin or through the Ministry of Education.

Have a certificate of never being convicted issued by the district court in this case in accordance with the KTP, the Merauke district court if it is if the candidate has an KTP in South Papua.

Another requirement is not to have debt dependents to the state where a certificate is issued by the Merauke District Court. Furthermore, for former convicts who are threatened with 5 years or more, the person concerned is required to do a 5-year gap period.

“For prospective candidate pairs who are former convicts, it must be seen again whether the person concerned is free, because a former convict in the PKPU sense is a person who no longer has a technical administrative relationship with the Ministry that organizes law and human rights,” said KPU Commissioner Helda Ambay.

According to this member of the South Papua Provincial KPU, former convicts who have passed the 5-year interval have the right to be nominated and run for office and do not need to get a letter of never being convicted from the court again. “However, for them there are three documents that must be prepared, the first is to honestly openly announce to the public that the person concerned is a former convict and it is conveyed through the print media and must be announced then, proof of the announcement from the media coupled with a letter from the editor must be brought along with proof of the announcement, in addition to the legal verdict sentenced to so many years by the court, both the District Court and the Corruption Court, then a pure release letter from the Correctional Facility or or Correctional Center that the person concerned is free,” he said.
