Central Papua Province has just received an award as one of the provinces that was successful in holding the general election for President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia in early 2024. The award was given directly by the General Election Commission to the Acting Governor of Central Papua Province, Ribka Haluk. Various aspects were taken into consideration as to why Central Papua Province succeeded in winning this award, including the success in managing and managing all logistical matters during the general election. Moreover, the general election is not only held to elect the President and Vice President, but also to elect the people’s representatives who sit on the legislative bench.
The challenges experienced by Central Papua Province have become a learning medium for stakeholders who have the task of holding general elections. Moreover, as one of the New Autonomous Regions, Central Papua is the province that is holding general elections for the first time. Various preparations require the role of stakeholders in order to make the general election a success. When you succeed in getting an award, of course it is an achievement to be proud of. Apart from being an achievement, the award given by the General Election Commission to Central Papua Province can increase enthusiasm and motivation for the province to further improve all lines that support the simultaneous regional head elections which will be held at the end of 2024 around November.
The Acting Governor of Central Papua Province, Ribka Haluk, could not hide his feelings of pride and emotion. He said that all the challenges in holding general elections in Central Papua Province are arts that can make the community and all stakeholders more creative in a positive direction with the same goal, namely making the general elections a success. As a reminder, Ribka Haluk also said that all elements of society in Central Papua should not be complacent after receiving an award, but instead hope that everyone will be prepared to receive a similar award in the future.
The hope of giving the award from the General Election Commission to Central Papua Province is that the first general election process for regional heads to elect the Governor, Deputy Governor, Regent, Deputy Regent, Mayor and Deputy Mayor will run smoothly. Even if there are problems, they are challenges that will be overcome by all elements of society, including stakeholders who play a major role in the general election process. The enthusiasm of Central Papua Province to hold simultaneous regional head elections in November will be even greater after receiving the award. As said by the Acting Governor of Central Papua, all elements of society should not be complacent after receiving an award but should try to maintain everything that is considered good and try to do better in the future.
