Governor of Papua hands over 13 Low Orbit Vsat Units (Starlink) in Supiori

SUPIORI – Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong handed over 13 units of Low Orbit Vsat (Starlink) during his working visit to Supiori Regency, Wednesday (4/9/2024). The Starlink Vsat was received by Supiori Regent Yan Imbab, witnessed by the Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Office (Kominfo) Jeri A. Yudianto and the Head of the ICT Division of the Papua Kominfo Office Thomas Sibi.

Jeri Yudianto said that the handover of Vsat is an effort to accelerate digital penetration, which is currently being promoted by the Papua Provincial Government in all districts. Where one of the Vsat submitted to the Supiori Regional Government, will later be installed on the outer island of Mapia.

While the choice to Starlink, considering the practicality and new internet backbone technology that has been officially released for sale in Indonesia, after the owner of Starlink met President Jokowi, some time ago.

“Starlink offers internet stability in the form of a sizable bandwidth of 50 Mbps at a more economical monthly price for a Vsat.”

“In addition, Starlink is also very light and practical where only through the installation process, because the modem has LAN and WIFI ports and can be used immediately after activation. All that remains is to prepare the access point, so that it can be used more by users and the WIFI radius can also be wider,” he explained, Thursday (4/5/2024).

Jeri added, Vsat is currently an early and fast solution for areas with extreme geography in Papua that lack internet when fixed broadband has not entered and limited M-Cellular.
