West Papua Wraps up 29 Medals at PON XXI

Manokwari – The West Papua contingent managed to show an increase in achievement at the XXI PON event which took place in two regions, Aceh and North Sumatra, by winning 6 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals from 24 sports that were followed. In total, West Papua ranks 22nd out of 39 participating provinces.

The Daily Chairman of KONI West Papua, Joni Saiba, representing the Chairman, appreciated and congratulated all athletes who had fought. Joni hopes that this achievement will be an inspiration to continue developing sports potential in West Papua.

The six gold medals won, three of which were obtained from rowing, two from boxing, and one from shooting. This success reflects the hard work and dedication of West Papuan athletes in preparing for the competition.

In comparison, at PON XX held in Papua, the West Papua contingent won only 3 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals. This increase in the number of medals shows significant development in the achievements of West Papuan athletes, especially in the midst of the division of the division area that separates West Papua and Southwest Papua.

Meanwhile, the overall champion position of PON XXI was held by West Java with a total of 195 gold medals, 163 silver medals, and 182 bronze medals. West Java’s success is a motivation for other contingents to improve their achievements in future events.
