Southwest Papua is the third new province to win gold at PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024

DELI SERDANG – Southwest Papua successfully broke the egg by winning the first gold at the National Sports Week (PON) XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024. As a debutant, Southwest Papua also made history by immediately winning gold. Southwest Papua’s first gold medal at PON this time came from motorcycle racing. The gold was presented by Rendi in the individual modification class.

Taking place at the Disporasu Multifunction Circuit, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Thursday, September 19, 2024, Rendi showed a very impressive performance. From the qualifying session until the main race ended, Rendi appeared dominant. Rendi emerged as the champion after recording his fastest time of 20 minutes 6 seconds in the main race.

Rendi also admitted that he was happy and proud to be able to present a gold medal for the new province of Southwest Papua. “I am very happy and proud of this achievement. This is the result of the hard work of the whole team and the support of all parties. I continue to improve my achievements and make Southwest Papua proud,” said Rendi, in a press statement obtained by MNC Portal Indonesia, Friday (9/20/2024).

Meanwhile, the runner-up position was occupied by West Nusa Tenggara racer Aldiaz Aqsal Ismaya with a record time of 20 minutes 7 seconds. With this 1 second difference, Aldiaz had to settle for a silver medal.

The third place was occupied by a racer from DI Yogyakarta, Hafid Pratamaditya Nursadi with a record time of 20 minutes 12 seconds. Hafid also has the right to get a bronze medal. With this result, Southwest Papua also followed Papua Mountains and Central Papua as the third new province capable of winning gold at PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024. Even Mountainous Papua has now scored six gold and Central Papua with four gold.
