PSBS Biak Will Have Home Stadium In Papua

PSBS Biak is the only representative team from Papua that will compete in the highest caste of football competition in Indonesia, namely Liga 1. The wait of the Papuan people who wanted to watch football matches live at the stadium has finally paid off. After previously seeing the representative team from Papua, namely Persipura Jayapura, which was relegated at the end of the 2021/2022 season. The wait of approximately two years had to be extended by a few more months because only in October 2024, PSBS Biak can compete at home in Papua. The two stadiums that will be used by PSBS Biak as home stadiums are Mandala Stadium and Lukas Enembe Stadium.

PSBS Biak has its own home stadium, namely Cenderawasih Stadium with a capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators. However, the stadium has not yet passed the verification carried out by the organizers of the Liga 1 tournament. Thus, if you want to have a home stadium in Papua, there are two stadium options that have passed the verification, namely Mandala Stadium and Lukas Enembe Stadium. Mandala Stadium is the home stadium of Persipura Jayapura which has certainly passed verification because it is one of the oldest stadiums in Papua and has complete facilities. The second stadium that can be used as a home stadium option for PSBS Biak is Lukas Enembe Stadium which is one of the modern stadiums in Papua that was built ahead of the 20th National Sports Week.

PSBS Biak can only compete using the home stadium in Papua in week 8 during the home match against Semen Padang. In weeks 1 to 7, PSBS Biak uses the same home stadium as Bali United which is located in Gianyar, namely the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium. The reason why PSBS Biak can only be based in Papua in October is because of the reasons for preparing for stadium verification and also other reasons concerning facilities to support security and comfort for the teams playing and also for the supporters.

PSBS Biak’s hope when they can be based in the home stadium in Papua is to get direct support from the Papuan people who watch live at the stadium when they compete. The enthusiasm of the supporters after waiting for the team from Papua to compete in the highest caste of Indonesian football is expected to support PSBS Biak’s achievements to at least be able to survive in the highest caste as a team with the status of a promoted team. The struggle of the promoted team is not easy because history records that several promoted teams competing in Liga 1 will be relegated and return to play in Liga 2 in the following season. However, PSBS Biak’s preparation to compete in Liga 1 is quite mature by relying on native players from Papua and also experienced foreign players. Thus, it is hoped that when PSBS Biak can be based at Mandala Stadium or Lukas Enembe Stadium later, it can provide enthusiasm for the team to fight for achievements.
