Papua Wheelchair Tennis Athletes Target Gold Medal at National Paralympic Week

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia is holding the 2024 National Paralympic Week in Surakarta. The event will take place from October 6 to 13. The athletes who will compete have the highest possible targets according to their expectations. One of the athletes who will compete in the 2024 National Paralympic Week is a wheelchair tennis athlete from Papua, Agus Fitriadi. Before the competition began, he had put in a lot of effort in training to get his dream medal. The target of the tennis player is to reach the final round. This target is considered a realistic target considering the many tough athletes from various provinces who play in the wheelchair tennis sport.

Agus Fitriadi’s track record and experience are quite impressive. It is recorded that he has participated in various competitions both at the national and international levels. Despite his wealth of experience, he still feels the need to train harder to win a medal at the 2024 National Paralympic Week. One of the reasons why he wants to enter the final round is to maintain his positive record of winning medals at the national level and in 2028 he will have the opportunity to defend Indonesia at the Paralympic Games to be held in the United States.

Agus Fitriadi has won various medals, including gold, silver, and bronze medals. These medals were won in various events. He has participated in the National Paralympic Week in four previous editions, namely in 2008 in Samarinda, in 2012 in Pekanbaru, in 2016 in West Java, and most recently in 2021 in Papua. His medal haul during the National Paralympic Week is also complete, namely winning five gold medals, two silver medals, and six bronze medals. Meanwhile, international competitions that Agus Fitriadi has participated in are the ASEAN Para Games for Southeast Asia in 2005 in the Philippines, 2008 in Thailand, 2009 in Malaysia, and in 2022 in Indonesia. During his participation in the ASEAN Para Games, he managed to win two silver medals and four bronze medals. Agus Fitriadi has also participated in Asian-level competitions, namely the Asian Para Games in 2014 in Incheon and in 2018 in Jakarta. However, from his two participations in the Asian arena, he has not managed to win a medal.

Agus Fitriadi wants to immediately show his best game at the 2024 National Paralympic Week. Medals and awards are certainly his goals so that his training process is harder than before. Moreover, when he wins the title and gold medal later, he will have the opportunity to compete at the international level that all athletes with special needs dream of, namely the Paralympics. In order to get a place to represent Indonesia in the Paralympics, Agus Fitriadi must prove that he is the number one athlete in Indonesia.
