Papua Mountain Rowing Branch wins gold medal at National Sports Week XXI Aceh – North Sumatra

WAMENA, PAPUA PEGUNUNGAN – Of all the sports at the XXI National Sports Week Aceh – North Sumatra Papua Mountains became the first to win a gold medal from rowing on behalf of athlete Stevani Maysche Ibo.

The woman from Sentani, Jayapura Regency, who is familiarly called Enggo Stevani, successfully became the first to contribute one gold medal to the Papua Mountain Province, with a distance of 1,000 meters.

Head Coach of the Papua Mountains Rowing Branch Albert Hizage said, this achievement was something extraordinary for Papua Mountains, which was the first time participating in the XXI National Sports Week in Aceh – North Sumatra, “Of course we are very happy and proud to be able to win a gold medal, even though we are the first to participate in the National Sports Week, God is good,” said Albert Hizage.

Albert said, after a distance of 1000 meters, Stevani Ibo will step again to the next stage and therefore, prayer support from all the people of Papua Mountains is expected, “Our athlete Stevani Ibo will compete again at a distance of 500 meters and of course we hope Stevani can give his best again for Papua Mountains, we also ask for prayer support from Papua Mountains, so that the preparation process until the match goes well,” Albert said.

Albert expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government of Papua Mountains for always supporting from the beginning until now, “With the good support from the government, it certainly encourages us, especially our athlete Stevani Ibo, so that we can get to this point, hopefully with the same enthusiasm we can also provide good results at the next stage,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the moment of the Launching Training Center for the XXl 2024 Papua Mountains National Sports Week in the courtyard of the Governor’s Office, Thursday, April 4, 2024, Enggo Setevani admitted that he was ready to make Papua Mountains proud and this was successfully proven by winning the first gold medal for Papua Mountains, “Of course I will do my best to make Papua Mountains Province proud at the Aceh National Sports Week, especially for rowing sports,” said Stevani Ibo.

Enggo Stevani from Sentani has quite a lot of achievements, Stevani is a graduate of the Papua Central Education and Training Center who began joining since 2013. Since she first appeared in the prestigious championship, precisely the Pre-National Sports Week in Palembang in 2015, she also presented four gold medals and subsequently, at the XIX National Sports Week in West Java in 2016, Stevani again contributed two gold medals and not only at the National Sports Week event, Stevani also successfully gained a National championship medal in Palembang in 2017 by bringing home one gold medal in the women’s kayak number 1 500 meters and 1 silver in the women’s kayak number 2 500 meters.

Stevani is Indonesia’s top athlete and has been part of the National Training squad since 2015, and her achievements are also good at the international level.

At the 2018 Asian Games, she contributed a silver medal in the 500 meters Women’s TBR number, then at the 2019 Asian Canoe Sprint Championship Thailand Stevani got two gold medals from the women’s kayak 1 number 500 meters and 200 meters, at the 2019 Philippines SEA Games, Vani again contributed 2 gold and 2 silver medals in the dragon boat number.

At the XX National Sports Week which took place at home in Papua, Stevani fulfilled his promise by winning two gold medals that Stevani targeted before the XX National Sports Week was held, for the XXI Aceh – North Sumatra National Sports Week this time Stevani defended the Papua Mountains Province and Stevani became the first to contribute a gold medal for Papua Mountains.
